Reflection on the readings
The readings provided from this week’s module touched on essential issues in the animation, motion graphics, and gaming world. It’s something I’ve been thinking about more. I am looking into ways to help support either people of color or women who want to get into the industry. It’s essential to make the industry fairer and more inclusive.
The Sims example is a good case study to show how the game lacks inclusiveness. It’s also odd how “white men” would design people of color or women. It’s a bit of a bizarre construct to think about, and it still amazes me how the industry stuck to that for an extended period.
The second reading touched upon detachment, and it’s something I enjoy playing games. It allows gamers to get lost in the universe and fully submerse themselves!
“Also, it has to be kept into account the scenario in which, although in presence of an actorialized avatar, the player is not feeling any particular emotion. We can label this non-feeling for the character “detachment”, which might be caused by two different factors or a mix of both.”
